Constantly being pushed to come down to view and discuss on price via Whatsapp and claimed to not know the cost of his own vehicle for sale without first putting up my offer request to management. I came down to view after I made an offer with him discussed earlier through text, just to enjoy some showbiz of Ray walking off to discuss with his 'boss' on whether our offer was acceptable. Turns out they were extremely firm on the price from the start. A huge waste of time! I went there with 2 friends, asked a few questions and requested for a test drive. Immediately Ray said “Oh are you serious in getting this? Cos there’s a customer that viewed previously, coming now to place deposit”. I had to insist on the test drive, else how would I even be sure if I am interested in the car. After the test drive, a colleague came up and asked us if want to consider this other car also very nice. To which, Ray explained that what this colleague did was not ethical by going up to other customer & that it is this colleague whose customer otw to place deposit. > After the deal was made — Upon leaving the showroom, we saw this same colleague sitting at the New Cars section, and realised that he’s wearing a formal white shirt & probably is with New Cars and not even doing used cars! > At the end of the few hours I was there, no such customer turned up. This all is a skit that they came together to put up, to pressurise customers to close. Back track to the negotiation process, I eventually managed to get a $2k discount off the listed price. But Ray asked that I have to pay for 3 items (road tax + dash cam + car mats, total $870) separately, if I were to take the discount. Else, original price would be higher. > He claimed that road tax has expired by then (I trusted him, and thought that ok I bear this cost. But now I know that it’s illegal to even let road tax expire and dealer is to renew & the road tax would’ve been factored into the purchase price) I agreed as I thought it was a good deal & went ahead with it. I placed a $5k deposit, in hopes that all will go smoothly. That was when all the red flags came out. As part of the deal, I had to sign bank loan and insurance. When asking him which insurance to get, he said just get cheapest - which I said no how can I just get the cheapest. His text reply was “Okie this part u ask ur 2 fren better”, I felt this was uncalled for & unprofessional. As he was unable to advise or even link me up with the right personnel to understand better. In the week while processing the car purchase, Ray rushed me to PayNow him for the 3 items & INSISTED that I transfer now if not cannot get stock in time. I said no, I will pay on handover date as agreed, since he said previously that these are stock clearance - so why is there a need to wait & order etc. I called him, he said that also the road tax needs to pay him now, so company can process, else it will incur penalty. I got suspicious on the 3 items and I went to check on the road tax — to my surprise, it has already been renewed till Dec 2024. I called him back, and asked why will this incur penalty when it has already been renewed by the Company. I felt cheated. He then tried to reason or come up with some excuse, saying oh ya Company paid first, no choice. I expressed my concerns and that I feel very uncomfortable throughout this entire process. Given the pushy sales tactics and the additional costs that likely go to his own pocket. I told him it is not that I am unwilling to pay (I agreed in the first place, so ok I pay), but I wish things are not done this way. Eventually, he suggested that “since you feel uncomfortable, let me make you feel comfortable”, for me to no longer have to pay for the 3 items. So he said “road tax absorbed in hopes that company won’t penalise him” and I no longer have to do the dashcam and car mats. He said that he spoke to his Manager on this, and this will not happen again (not sure how true, or this is just his own doing). Having known Jack Cars as a big brand in the market & endorsed by influencers, I expected a more pleasant experience. My first car purchase experience ought to be an exciting and happy one. Yet, I got the keys to my new car feeling upset and disgusted honestly. Being in the sales line myself, I feel work ethics and reputation go a long way. And this should definitely NOT be the way to do business.
